To maximize the tension on your side delts during lateral raises and build bigger shoulders more efficiently, don’t make the mistake of raising the weight straight out to your sides. Instead, keep a slight bend in your elbows during this shoulder exercise and raise your arms up at a diagonal angle into the scapular plane (basically half way between straight to the side and straight out in front). Incorporating a slight forward lean will increase the effectiveness of this deltoid exercise even further by helping to line up the resistance more directly with the lateral delt. Make sure to apply these two tips during your next shoulder workout to build shoulder muscle with maximum effectiveness.
