Let’s see if you fall into one of these categories… no matter what you do you can’t cap those shoulders or maybe you feel like your mom didn’t tell you that you were born missing one of the heads of your Delts or every time you train shoulders you wake up the next morning and … your shoulders aren’t sore….the only thing that’s sore is your traps.

Believe it or not, it has a lot to do with what’s happening to your scapula when you’re training shoulders.

Your scapula can move in 6 different ways but for this problem, we really only need to focus on two of them (unless you are really screwed up) and that’s elevation and depression.

To elevate your scaps the levator scapulae and the upper trap fibers need to shorten to make this happen. A very useful thing to be able to do until it gets out of hand, especially when you’re doing side laterals.

So the second grader in us all say that’s an easy fix, I’ll just depress them and if I can’t help it I’ll throw a pull up band over my shoulder force them down. But that would be a mistake because then you could end up putting pressure on your brachiplexus which is kind of important set of nervers that you don’t want to screw up if you ever want to beetle clamp your wife again.. Not only that your won’t be able to complete the movement because that humeral head is going to get jammed up.

So the important question to figure out is what muscles are involved in depression because I’m probably lacking in those, that’s the pectoralis minor, serrates anterior and the lower fibers in your trapezius….

Did you catch that… the same muscle that’s screwing because it’s over developed is also the one that’s underdeveloped and not doing it’s job.. Your lower traps! Watch the video for a few exercises that will help you start to engage them and get them functional again, then you’ll be on your way to building bigger shoulders.
